Museum & Art Gallery in Washington, DC
Museum & Art Gallery in Washington, DC Andy Warhol created this original portrait of a giant panda in 1983 as part of a portfolio of ten screenprints he called Endangered Species. Giant Panda (II. 295) is an original screenprint on Lenox Museum Board and is hand signed by Andy Warhol. Warhol was commissioned to provide the series by a pair of New York art dealers after numerous conversations concerning ecological issues such as beach erosion. Warhol referred to his subjects as animals in make-up, contrasting the dynamism of vivid color and frenetic line with the natural grace and humble pride of the animals themselves.
