Prior to 1947 he operated out of his home in Piedmont Ca. He worked for Sherman and Clay Music Company building violins on the fifth floor. Early in the morning before working hours he would go to the Piano dept. And practice tuning. He soon started tuning pianos in peoples homes on his day off. Bob started buying used pianos, rebuilding them, and selling them to families in his neighborhood. Bob spent his whole life in service to music and musicians. An accomplished viola player himself, he played quartets once a month and played with the Oakland and San Francisco Symphonies.
