My interest in the health food industry arose because of the poor health of my father. In 1971 my father had a colossal heart attack. Sugars literally ate a hole in his heart. These unprocessed sugars sat in his lower left ventricle and destroyed the tissue. When he was doing some heavy lifting the tissue gave way and left a hole in his heart the size of a quarter. The doctors gave him six months to live. My mother refused to accept this prognosis and began reading about alternative health care and how to take control of your own health.
