About Us
read moreThe monumental triumph of escaping abusive environments often demands everything from survivors. By the time they reach American soil, they may possess little more than the will to build a new life. Even the most fortunate among them may be ill-equipped to navigate the difficult legal process that awaits, let alone provide for themselves and their loved ones. They have the will. They have the ability. But not the resources. They don't want a handout. They need a helping hand. Without it, choices and opportunities dwindle, and we all suffer the loss of the potential each person holds.
Services
read moreHRI assists immigrants with representation in various immigration proceedings. We provide high quality legal services free of charge, which means we have to make tough decisions on which cases we invest our resources into. We speak Spanish; however, if you require a translator, you will need to provide your own. Under most circumstances, a client must apply for asylum within one year of entrance into the United States. They must be unable or unwilling to return to their country of origin due to a legitimate fear of future persecution.
Volunteer Opportunities
read moreEach year, volunteers donate thousands of hours towards legal, translation, fundraising, and social services. Each hour contributed benefits our clients going through the immigration process. All volunteers interested in working with clients or client related documents will be asked to sign a confidentiality agreement, and complete a criminal background check request. HRI actively recruits volunteer interpreters and translators to provide written translations and in-person interpretation in English for our clients.
