read moreOur goal at Inner Strength Martial Arts (ISMA) is to teach knowledge, technical ability, and the philosophy of our style while instilling discipline, self confidence, and the importance of physical conditioning as it relates to the martial arts, to our students. We try to provide an interesting and exciting, non-threatening, family atmosphere. Although our style focuses primarily on self defense, we emphasize the concept of training not to fight - in other words, our goal is to give students the ability, self confidence, and technical proficiency to protect themselves and adapt to any situation, in addition to the mental Inner Strength not to place themselves in a confrontational situation.

read moreInner Strength Martial Arts believes leading and teaching others helps re-enforce your own martial arts knowledge and skills, as well as increase self-confidence and self-esteem. Students are encouraged to "help" early in their training, with respect to and under the supervision of higher ranks. Learning to teach through leadership roles starts as early as ISMA preschool classes. Selected preschool student "leaders" periodically direct warm-up exercises, lead some technical practice and forms, and are responsible for maintaining training equipment.

read moreISMA rank structure starts with Belts and progresses to Sashes. Students earning Black level will receive both a Black Belt and a Black Sash noting ISMA's style of utilizing both hard and soft movements under one system. ISMA's philosophy is not to accelerate a student through rank progression before they are physically and mentally prepared to test. We don't believe in "giving" a student a rank they have not earned, creating a false sense of security, or setting up a student to fail. We DO believe in our students' abilities and we believe they have the potential to surpass many students of similar rank in other schools.

If you are under 18 years old, it is extremely important that you share these with your parents too. Log-in information to the Student Area of our web site will be available at class. All classes of ISMA are conducted as they would be at a free standing martial arts school. ISMA is a complete martial arts school with over 150 students, belt testing, student activities, and a variety of continuing classes offered in Plano and Allen.

read moreMs. Bales, owner and instructor of Street Smart Self Defense offers self defense seminars to individuals and groups on an as-requested basis. Standard seminars are 2 hours in length and are both lecture and hands-on, but times and curriculum can be adapted to fit the needs of specific individuals or groups. Street Smart Self Defense participants receive an edge on personal safety through awareness, knowledge, quick and easy hand strike and kicking techniques, targeting, and common household weapons.
