read moreOur High-Incidence Special Education program provides education majors with the fundamentals for working with students who have mild to moderate intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbances, high functioning autism spectrum disorders, ADD/ADHD, and learning disabilities. The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts the demand for Special Education teachers will grow 17% from 2009-2018. Teachers with the endorsement are prepared to effectively serve the diverse needs of ALL students in both general and special education.

read moreThe intent of this 18 month long engagement program is to help the member institutions of the Kansas Independent College Association strengthen our "bench" of future leaders for our academic departments and staff divisions. The Academy is the outgrowth of several years of conversation among our presidents and provosts about the need for a high quality leadership training opportunity targeted for smaller private colleges like ours. Moreover, all of us had identified a gap in the existing programs: while there were multiple programs for those interested in becoming provosts and/or presidents, there were few such programs focused on the other tiers of the organizational hierarchy - the division/department heads and deans.

read moreKansas Independent College Association (KICA) members include seventeen primarily four-year baccalaureate level institutions and three primarily two-year associate level institutions. High school students preparing to choose the setting in which they will continue their education should be aware of these colleges and universities and the opportunities they provide for postsecondary educational study. These institutions include the oldest and newest non-proprietary universities in the state; enrollments as small as 300 and as large as 3,600; and campuses in urban environments, suburban settings, medium sized towns, and small rural communities.

read moreThe Kansas Teacher Service Scholarship is a service obligation scholarship program that provides financial assistance to both students pursuing bachelor's degree programs and currently licensed teachers pursuing endorsement in hard-to-fill disciplines. Under the Teacher Loan Forgiveness Program, if you teach full-time for five complete and consecutive academic years in a low-income school or educational service agency, and meet other qualifications, you may be eligible for forgiveness of up to $17,500 on your Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loans and your Subsidized and Unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loans.

read moreAs a consortium, in partnership with our member institutions, we currently offer academic programs with courses of study in Athletic Training, Secondary Methods, and High-Incidence Special Education. These programs are a hybrid of in-person and online learning. All of our programs place an emphasis on hands-on learning. Students are prepared to be stewards of their community, helping others from all walks of life. The Special Education program provides the foundation for working with students who have mild to moderate disabilities in kindergarten through sixth grade or sixth through twelfth grade.

KICA, founded in 1976, is a 501 (c) (4) not-for-profit Kansas corporation governed by a board of directors composed of the presidents of each of the member institutions and is managed by a staff of seven.

read moreIt is with extreme gratitude that KICF thanks the late Ms. Maud Wyatt for the establishment of her trust which has supported the students at KICF colleges and universities for over 50 years. In memory of her charitable support, we have prepared a document titled, "A History of Giving: The Maud Wyatt Educational Trust, 1963-2013." Although the trust was established long ago, it is easy to notice how far-sighted and benevolent Ms. Wyatt was and we are grateful to her for these incredible gifts. Without question, this trust has served, in the words of Maud Wyatt, as a "memorial for all time in development of intellects and characters of deserving students."
