LSS manages the supportive housing program here, and you will usually find a group of men and women engrossed in an arts and crafts class led by a soft-spoken, unassuming gentleman known as Tee. A former professional fine artist and teacher, Kek Tee Lim "Tee", patiently teaches his fellow tenants how to create original sculpture in origami and paper mache, and guides them in making humorous political buttons.

read moreThe Housing with Dignity program provides housing to chronically homeless people who are discharged from the hospital. The program provides up to six months of stabilization and supported housing, with goals of reducing hospitalizations, finding permanent supported housing for these individuals, andproviding the foundation necessary to allow clients to remain in housing and achieve long-term stability. The program is based on a Housing First approach, with the primary goal of assisting homeless individuals with severe/chronic health and mental health issues to obtain and retain housing.

During the time we were living in shelters, it was a hard and exhausting period of family courts and confrontations in court for custody of my children. From the recommendation of my social worker, I applied for housing. Several months later, we received the great news that we had qualified to live in Mosaica Family Apartments, which made us very happy that we would finally have our own home.

read moreA Novel Idea, formerly known as Youth Simply Giving Back, is a social enterprise that provides job training and skills development for the former foster youth and formerly homeless youth ages 18-24 who reside in LSS of Northern California transitional and permanent supportive housing programs. A Novel Idea resells used books online. The focus of A Novel Idea is on employment literacy but youth participating in the social enterprise must also be working towards (or have already received) their GED/diploma.
