Arthur D. Sutcliffe was born and raised in Lowell. He is a graduate of Saint Peter's Grammar School and Lowell High School Class of 1970. Arthur served as an apprentice in Funeral Service since 1980. He attended New England Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences in Boston, graduating top of his class in 1986. Arthur became a completely licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer in the fall of 1986. He then worked for Saunders Funeral Home on Westford St. In Lowell, a company serving families of Greater Lowell since 1900. Arthur purchased the business in 1989 and renamed it the Saunders-Sutcliffe Funeral Home.

The Mahoney/McNamee family owned and operated the funeral home from 1923 until 2011 when the McDonough family assumed ownership of Mahoney Funeral Home. We are still working on the consolidation of the Mahoney, McNamee and McDonough family histories, but would like to provide some information for those who are interested in the future of The Mahoney Funeral Home. In 2011 the funeral home was renovated including handicapped accessible bathrooms, wallpaper, carpeting, lighting, artwork, furniture, etc.

When someone passes away, we will make a dedicated trip to the place of death and bring them to our funeral home. Then when the paperwork, authorizations and legal requirements are completed we will transport them to the crematory for cremation.
