Motivated by statistics showing that young girls fare better academically in same-sex schools, a group of Catholic religious sisters decided to pool their resources and supply such an alternative for economically disadvantaged students in St. Louis public schools. Eight women religious leaders organized their huge experience as educators, school administrators, social workers, and governing board leaders to open Marian Middle School in 1999. Their mission is to supply a quality private-school experience to girls who otherwise might not have approach to this opportunity.
