In the mid 1970s, finding a fireplaces or wood burning stove in central Illinois was impossible. Mark Coats knew there was an opportunity to get people what they wanted - top-of-the-line, quality fireplaces and stoves. He opened the doors to Marx Fireplaces and Lighting in 1976 in Springfield, Illinois. The business originally marketed and distributed wood burning stoves, furnaces and related accessories throughout the Midwest. Trends come and go and styles change, so through the years, Marx adapted to what the client said they wanted.
