Launched in 1989 in Lansing, Michigan, the new National Museum of Surveying (NMoS) will open its doors in downtown Springfield, Illinois in 2009. As the 1st and only museum committed to preserving and interpreting the nation's history of mapping and surveying, NMoS will present the innovation of the profession on a grand scale by displaying exhibits that inspire, amaze and surprise. The 10, 000 square foot museum, situated in the former Roberts Brothers Building, will include a permanent collection of more than 2, 000 pieces and feature exhibits about Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln and Lewis.
