Our Redeemer was established in 1866 as one of the early Free Methodist congregations. Free Methodists spoke against slavery, promoted liberty in worship, and taught liberty from measuring your life by what you own. The church held services originally on Villa Street in downtown Elgin. Room to grow was limited so in 1974 land was purchased along route 58 and a new building built in 1978. Pastor Jeff Suits has been the senior pastor from 1990-2010.
