The Palmer School Community supplies a safe and positive learning environment that empowers all students to exercise critical thinking skills, become respectful and responsible life-long learners, achieve their individual goals, and who maximize their contributions to society. John M. Palmer School was founded in 1925 and officially opened in September 1926. It named after John McAuley Palmer, 13th Governor of Illinois in 1868 and US Senator for Illinois in 1891. Many North Mayfair residents have attend Palmer throughout the years.

The NCLB law which became effective on July 1, 2002, mandates meaningful consultation between parents and school districts. The Palmer Parent Advisory Council (P.A.C.) is part of NCLB. The P.A.C. meets monthly and discusses plans to promote parental involvement and enhance home /school communication. All parents are encouraged to attend our meetings.
