About Us
read moreThe Lighthouse for Christ Provides Much Needed Eye Care in Mombasa, Kenya Jacksonville (December 2006) This Thanksgiving, instead of feasting on turkey, stuffing, cranberry relish and all the fixings, Dr. Timothy Schneider, of the Schneider Eye Center in Jacksonville Beach and his family, spent their holiday at the Lighthouse for Christ Hospital and Clinic in Mombasa, Kenya. Dr. Schneider has been on previous medical mission trips to Mexico and Haiti, but this was his first trip to Africa. The Lighthouse For Christ is a non-denominational Christian eye clinic and hospital with a mission to provide eye care for thousands of Africans who otherwise would not have access to care.
Lasik
read moreYour quest for perfect vision may finally be over. For millions of people, LASIK has dramatically changed the way they see the world. Driving, swimming, golfing, reading the alarm clock from across the bed or simply looking at a sunset becomes clearer - without glasses or contact lenses. The important thing is to find the procedure that is best for your specific situation, and the right surgeon. LASIK, PRK, LASEK, and IOLs are just a few of the choices you have. LASIK (Laser-In-Situ Keratomileusis) has now become the most common laser vision correction procedure in North America.
Cataracts
read moreCataract (or clear lens) surgery is performed on an outpatient basis, and usually requires just a few hours of your time from start to finish. Your eys will be treated with anesthetic prior to the procedure so you will feel little, if any, discomfort. A tiny, self-sealing incision will be made in the eye allowing Dr. Schneider to use a small instrument (about the size of a pen tip) to break up or wash away the human lens. A cataract is a progressive clouding of the eye's natural lens that interferes with light passing through to the retina.
