Trinity Episcopal Church
Churches in Portsmouth, VA
Every July fourth we as Americans celebrate Independence Day. In 1776, leaders in the American colonies declared independence from England and its royal authority. Virginia certainly was at the center of this major step, and great thinkers and statesmen such as Thomas Jefferson shaped the future of this nation. We continue to reap the blessings of this heritage into the 21st century. What does it mean to declare independence? Ultimately, it means to have some control over one's own destiny.

We come from a variety of different backgrounds but what binds us together is our commitment to becoming better followers of Jesus Christ. As Episcopalians our worship is shaped by the Book of Common Prayer. We firmly hold that what we pray is what we believe, and this shapes how we live. Trinity is the oldest church in Portsmouth, founded in 1761, and given a prominent place on Church Square by Commodore Baron, who laid out the city.
