Washington Marina

President Roosevelt commissioned Charles Chaney, the Philadelphia Harbor engineer to design and supervise the construction of Yacht Basin One. Between 1939 and 1941, Yacht Basin One (now known as The Washington Marina) was constructed on federal land by Works Progress Administration (WPA) During the period 1941 to 1951, Yacht Basin One was leased to four different businesses all of which failed to operate the marina successfully.
