read moreWith that in mind, a group of teachers and parents came together to offer Wilmington another middle school option. They founded the Wilmington Academy of Arts and Sciences (WAAS) in 1997, becoming the only school in the area that caters exclusively to academically gifted students in grades 4-8. WAAS offers a holistic approach to education. Core subjects such as biology, chemistry, math, history and language arts come alive in our interactive classrooms. Spanish immersion and comprehensive art and music classes are also a signature part of our daily curriculum.

read moreWhile we do administer regular and standardized testing, we value a more holistic approach to education with a myriad of hands-on learning experiences. We are the only middle school in the area whose main focus is the education and enrichment of gifted and academically-motivated students. The shared goal of our faculty is to produce students who are prepared to succeed in high school and possess the skills needed to excel in college. When students complete their education at WAAS, they leave with the critical thinking skills necessary to thrive in today's society.
