About Us
read moreDuring your initial Consultation, Dr. Feng's office staff will discuss the Surgery fees and help you with Insurance Pre-Authorization. Patients should be aware that there are sometimes out-of-pocket expenses, and insurance policies may cover one type of weight loss surgery and not another type of surgery. The patient expenses can vary and the patient is ultimately responsible for those expenses. Patients should contact their insurance company to confirm their policy benefits for weight loss surgery.
What is Laproscopic Surgery
read moreLaparoscopy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure whereby a surgeon gains access to the abdominal cavity by way of small incisions in the abdominal wall. In laparoscopy, the surgeon makes several small incisions through which slender surgical instruments are passed. This technique eliminates the need for a large incision and creates less tissue damage. Dr. Feng specializes in advanced laparoscopic techniques to allow patients to undergo surgery in the least invasive manner. Sometimes, patients who are super-obese (more than 350 pounds) or have had previous abdominal operations may not be good candidates for laparoscopy, however.
Causes of Morbid Obesity
read moreThe reasons for obesity are multiple and complex. Despite conventional wisdom, it is not simply a result of overeating. Research has shown that in many cases a significant, underlying cause of morbid obesity is genetic. Studies have demonstrated that once the problem is established, efforts such as dieting and exercise programs have a limited ability to provide effective long-term relief. Science continues to search for answers. But until the disease is better understood, the control of excess weight is something patients must work at for their entire lives.

REALIZE Adjustable Gastric Band
read moreThe REALIZE™ Band was designed and developed with patient safety and comfort in mind as another option for adjustable gastric banding techniques. The band is a strong, flexible silicone structure made entirely of biocompatible materials. With the REALIZE™ Band, weight loss occurs at a slower rate— ranging from 1- 2 pounds per week. The REALIZE™ Personalized Banding Solution makes the patient feel full sooner when solid protein eaten first which results in less food consumed at one time and makes it easier for you to participate in healthy eating and lifestyle habits.
Surgical Weight Loss for Men
read moreMen are genetically predisposed to lose weight more quickly than women. Most experts agree men tend to lose weight faster because they have more lean muscle mass and a lower body fat percentage than women. Men generally have a higher metabolism, the rate at which they burn calories, because they have more muscle. Because of the better odds for quicker success men tend to opt for conventional weight loss methods such as diet and exercise before considering gastric bypass as an option. Dr. Feng strives to educate our patients regarding Weight Loss Surgery options for women as well as men.

Duodenal Switch
read moreThis procedure offers the ability to eat larger portions foods than gastric bypass or adjustable gastric banding and has reliable and long lasting weight loss. You may experience more bowel movements and need to closely monitor your vitamin, protein and mineral levels. The stomach is reduced in size to a long, tube like vertical pouch, 4-5 ounces in size with moderate restriction of food intake. The small intestine is divided to separate food from the digestive juices, causing significant malabsorption.
