The 1st character, called Mu, is composed of an enveloping section and a lower section. The lower section means to prevent or to stop while the upper represents a warrior with a sword. In this sense, the character means that through the study of martial arts, violence can be stopped. The 2nd character, Do, means way or road. This character represents your study of the martial arts; it is the path or road that you have taken to meet the essence of things.
