Continuing Education in Cambridge, MA 1st incorporated as the Cambridge Social Union in April 1876, then in 1938, we officially became the Cambridge Center for Adult Education. In 1889 the Social Union purchased and moved into the House of William Brattle at 42 Brattle Street, which was founded in 1727. In late 1972 the Cambridge Center acquired the Blacksmith House (the former Window Shop) property. Blacksmith House includes the Dexter Pratt House, built in 1811, where Longfellow observed the famous Village Blacksmith at work under the Spreading Chestnut Tree in 1839.

read moreStudents are allowed to purchase a single admission for a prorated fee. Single admissions can be purchased in person at the registration office on the first day of class if there is space available. Students are allowed to register until the second session of the class if the class runs for four or more sessions and if there is space available. If the class you are interested in is full, you can sign up for the waitlist. If and when a seat becomes available, you will receive an email notification.

For more than a century, CCAE has served as an integral part of the fabric of our community, bringing small groups of people together to learn something new. We are committed to inviting everyone to participate in our programming, regardless of financial means. If your application is approved, CCAE will grant a scholarship that covers 50% of the class tuition. Tuition assistance can only be applied to one class per term. If your first choice is unavailable, CCAE will help you select another class.
