The San Mateo County Library is a Joint Powers Authority (JPA) and comprised of the cities of Atherton, Belmont, Brisbane, East Palo Alto, Foster City, Half Moon Bay, Millbrae, Pacifica, Portola Valley, San Carlos, Woodside, and the unincorporated areas of the county. Library policies are set by the Library Administration and the Joint Powers Authority (JPA) Governing Board. Policies supply the structure for the implementation of the Library's Mission, Vision, and Strategic Plan.
read moreA library card issued at any one of our Libraries entitles you to use the resources and services available at all the libraries, opens a new window in the Peninsula Library System. Please be aware that remote use of some online resources is limited to card holders of the subscribing Library. If you live anywhere in San Mateo County, applying for a library card is as simple as applying online. Your new library card will be mailed to you within 3 business days. San Mateo County Libraries have eliminated daily late fees for materials checked out to children and teens effective July 1, 2016.

You're invited to walk up anytime during Curbside Pickup hours and speak with a staff member to arrange a pickup of holds or a curated range of other items from our collection, including preselected book bundles, sewing machines (select locations only), bicycles (Belmont Library only), and more! No appointment is necessary but wait times will vary based on demand. For the fastest pickup and a contactless experience, you can still schedule an appointment below.
